A Book of Brightling

An elegant and delightful private commission.

‘Brightling is unique among Sussex villages. Built at the second highest point of the county, peppered with mad 18th century follies, blessed with views of stunning beauty painted by Turner, and with parkland designed by Humphrey Repton.

And now Brightling has a book born miraculously out of vivid village voices: a farmer who lived and died there, the Squirearchy, a merry widow with a gift for poetry and prose, and her son. Together they conjure a Sussex village of sixty and more years ago in a touching and beautiful book. A Book of Brightling is in turn hilarious, haunting, and of interest to anyone with a love for rural England and what made it.’
