Gilbert White and the Artists

Born 300 years ago, Gilbert White was one of the first naturalists. His book The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne has inspired generations of artists, writers and naturalists.

There have been over 300 editions of his book, many illustrated by an array of exceptional artists, including Clare Leighton, Eric Ravilious, John Nash and John Piper. This delightful exhibition at the Pallant House Gallery brings together original prints, blocks and the rare First Edition.

Also displayed are eleven new commissions created by contemporary artists inspired by White’s Natural History.
