To coincide with Hastings Contemporary’s tenth anniversary, Seafaring brings together more than fifty works by (predominantly) British artists from 1820 to the present day.
Thoughtfully curated by James Russell, it is an exhibition about the shared human experience of being at sea, with depictions of fishermen and naval personnel, migrants and shipwrecked sailors, and the age-old themes of voyage and migration, shipwreck and rescue.
Works by JMW Turner, Burne-Jones, Edward Ardizzone, Alfred Wallis, Eric Ravilious, Maggi Hambling and many more make for an absorbing experience!
How lucky we are to have it here!
